Studies on Evaluation of Some Elite Trees of Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lam.) from Southern Karnataka

Abstract

A study was carried out on characterization of elite trees of jackfruit in five district of southern Karnataka during the period 2008 to 2010. The study revealed that Kachahalli-1 tree was outstanding progeny. The growth habit of Kachahalli-1tree was vigorous in nature recorded highest yield on both count basis (166.66 no of fruits/tree) as well as on weight basis (1565 kg/tree). The mean weight of the fruit (11.61 kg/fruit) and circumference of the fruit (73.15 cm) was maximum in this elite tree. A Kachahalli-1 fruit contains maximum number of bulbs per fruit (79.88). The seed weight per fruit was medium (0.761 kg/fruit).
