Abstract

Rhizosphere is a rich niche of microbes and should be explored for obtaining potential plant growth promoting rhizobacteria, which can be useful in developing bio-inoculants for enhancement of growth and yield of crop plants. The application of beneficial bacteria to the soil for the promotion of plant growth and for biological control of soil-borne pathogens is growing. Since the large scale use of fungicides may lead to toxic residues, development of fungicide resistance, environmental contaminations and carcinogenic, teratogenic and mutagenic effects in humans, animals and plants, the need to isolate and select superior, naturally occurring rhizosphere bacteria continues to be of interest. Hence, the present investigation was undertaken to isolate fluorescent Pseudomonas sp. and characterize them for multifariousplant growth promoting activities so that they can be exploited for bioformulation development.
