In the present investigation attempt was made to evaluate compost accelerating microbes for speedy decomposition of rice straw under pot culture experiment. The 3 CDM cultures (2 bacterial and 1 fungal) cultures were selected for pot culture evaluation using rice straw as substrate. The results of pot culture experiments showed that there was considerable decrease in carbon content from initial 17.72% to 8.12% in the different treatments. Maximum decrease in organic carbon was observed in the consortial treatment comprising cellulolytic microorganisms & silicate solubilizing bacteria. It was also observed that the gradual increase in total nitrogen content of rice straw substrate ranged from 0.713% at zero days to 0.971% at 45 days of incubation irrespective of inoculated treatments. The highest nitrogen content was recorded in the consortial inoculated treatment. The results reflected that inoculated microbes also caused maximum decrease in C: N ratio to as low as 8: 1 that indicated almost maturity of compost.
