Abstract

Mungbean yellow mosaic virus (MYMV) disease is one of the most serious diseases of soybean and has been renowned in India for more than five decades. It is caused by a geminivirus belonging to the genus, begomovirus of the family, Geminiviridae. The present in vestigation was undertaken for MYMV infecting soybean inVidarbha region of Maharashtra, India. Symptoms of yellowing and slight puckering on leaves were observed in MYMV infected soybean plants under field condition. The virus was not sap transmissible. Therefore, on mechanical inoculation on different hosts did not show any visible symptoms even 30 days after inoculation (DAI). The DNA of Geminivirus was amplified from a viral template present in infected soybean leaves by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) by using specific primers (i.e. NABF and NABR) that amplified aviral DNA fragment of approximately 1000bp. Electron microscopic studies also revealed the presence of geminate particles measuring approximately 30 x 20 nm.
