Abstract

Seventy fungal isolates obtained from compost sites and related environments were screened for their pectinase activities on Mineral Salt Agar medium (MSA) containing 1% pectin. Three fungal strains viz., Penicillium chrysogenum VCLF-1, Aspergillus affustus FLF-11 and Alternaria tenuissima LG-1 that showed appreciable pectinolytic activity on MSA plates were subjected to the quantitative estimation of their pectinase activities. Amongst the isolates Alternaria tenuissima LG-1 recorded highest pectinolytic activity, followed by Penicillium chrysogenum VCLF-1 and Aspergillus affustus FLF-11.
