Abstract

A green house investigation was conducted to study the Effect of biochar application on effeteness of Mycorrhizal colonization in Leucaena leucocephala in an alfisol. This experiment consisted of 6 levels of biochar application (0, 2.5, 5.0, 10, 20 and 40 g/kg soil), 2 levels of nutrients (0 and 100 units) and 2 levels of Mycorrhizal (GA and +GA). The total number of experimental units were 72 as there were 24 treatments arising from factorial combinations of 6 biochar levels, 2 nutrient levels and 2 VAM inoculation levels and with 3 replicates for each treatment. This study clearly indicate that application of biochar up to 40 g/kg soil in presence of optimum level of nutrients do not interfere with VAM development in roots of Leucaena. However, reduction in VAM colonization level to the extent of 12%, at the highest level of biochar application in absence of nutrients.
