Abstract

To improve mass production of Corcyra cephalonica as a factitious host the present investigation was undertaken with four types of diet i.e. 100 per cent sorghum, 50 per cent sorghum + 50 per cent bajra, 50 per cent sorghum + 50 per cent maize, 50 per cent sorghum + 50 per cent wheat. Among these different diets, maximum full grown larvae weight 48.01 mg, larval length 16.72 mg, fecundity 217 eggs per female, egg hatching 63.94 per cent was observed in 100 per cent sorghum diet. Maximum pupal weight 24.71 mg, adult emergence 64.04 per cent and minimum larval mortality 35.96 per cent was observed in 50 per cent sorghum + 50 per cent bajra diet. Minimum larval weight of full grown larvae 43.51 mg, larval length 15.90 mm, pupal weight 17.50 mg, adult emergence 57.90 per cent, fecundity 185.265 eggs per female, egg hatching 55.36 per cent and maximum larval mortality 42.10 per cent was observed in 50 per cent sorghum + 50 per cent wheat diet.
