Meghalaya, located in the North Eastern part of India, is widely known for its matrilineal culture. The Khasi–Pnar and the Garo are one of the few communities practising matrilineal system from time immemorial. This paper ponders on the gender relations in the kinship structures of the Khasi–Pnar; it also aims to highlight changes in the same due to the dynamic nature of human society generally.
