Relevance of ‘Sanskritization’ in Contemporary Context

Abstract

Sanskritization is a process, in which the so-called low caste of Hindu caste structure is imitated in the direction of the so-called high caste's lifestyle, thoughts, behavior, belief etc. and after some time they claim to believe and behave like them. Present paper based on the concept of Sanskritization in ‘Religion and Society Among the Coorgs of South India’ written by M.N. Srinivas in 1952, which propogates this hypothesis of caste dynamics in ovkalinga and lingayat caste of Rampura village of Mysore. It is anold concept and in this industrial revolutionary era this concept is tested in this work in contemporaray settings.
