Electronic Governance and Women in India: Challenges and Prospects

Abstract

The concept of e-governance stands on the principle of the usability of information and technology for the functioning of governance process. Further this became relevant during the neo-liberal regimes with the emergence of Liberalization and Privatization. With the introduction of technology many transformations have taken place at the national as well as international level. It has been an important platform through which ideology of good-governance can be promoted. The status of women is improving with the passing time. Information technology has been a powerful source to transform their life. Women have been beneficiaries of the system in the governance process. This article highlighted the fact that E-governance is one of the important medium to empower women socially, economically as well as politically. However, this article discusses the impediments faced by women in making use of these technologies. This study concluded with the fact that although it has some negative implications but prospects of the technology cannot be ignored.
