The Bais Kshatriyas; Rise and Decline of a Rajput Dynasty in Northern India

Abstract

This paper delineates the origins and evolution of the population of Bais Kshatriyas in India. It attempts to unravel facts and stories behind their emergence as the warrior caste group in ancient and medieval India. After its establishment as an empire the owner of throne, Shalivahan founded Pratishanpur naga. Three other capitals were flourished later on during the reins of Harshavardhan, and Abhaychandra from 7th to 13th centuries AD: They were Thaneshwar-Kannauj and Daundiakheda in northern region of India. It is discussed that the dynasty ruled for a long time before British period who ruined the forts finally when the king of Daundiakheda and Shankarpur of United Provinces and Awadh talukats denied to bow down before them during mutiny of 1857. At end, it explores the ethnic elements, physical cultural, economic and linguistic identifiers of the Bais kshatriyas sub-groups scattered currently in India.
