The Bretton Woods system of development, centered on nation-states, was replaced by the advent of economic neoliberalism or modern globalization during the 20th century—a pivotal shift from development to globalization. Neoliberalism is not a singular entity; it manifests in various forms, yielding diverse effects both globally and locally. This research, based on ethnographic data collected from a mountain community, examines not only how neoliberalism has affected the mountain economy but also how numerous social and cultural aspects have changed due to market forces driven by competition. The work contributes to discussions on issues including indigenous knowledge, sustainable development, and resource management practices.
