Abstract

Village organizations are designed to address the social and local concerns of rural residents. Keeping a close watch on these concerns, a village is found to possess various organizations, including the council of elders, religious, educational, healthcare, women, youth, and political organizations. These entities play a crucial role in maintaining the smooth and efficient functioning of the village. Traditional village organizations, prevalent among tribes today, constitute the most significant bodies within the entire village. This study explores the diverse village organizations and their roles in the lives of the Karbis in Kakojan village, situated in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam, India.
