Abstract

Adolescence and culture are two inseparable terms. Industrialization in the late 19th century brought about the emergence of adolescence as a distinct period of life span and the adolescent girl is a brand new product of modern times. ‘Adolescence’ as a concept travels throughout the history of modern civilization in various forms and finally achieves its present status. In 1990s when globalization touched the entire world, adolescents also remain unaffected by its prominent impact Due to globalization, there emerged a global and pluralistic view of adolescence, which shares same values, beliefs and attitudes throughout the world. This paper deals with the very concept of adolescence, its emergence, historical background, relationship with culture, globalization and its impact over adolescents.
