The interface between tribes and globalisation is a significant phenomenon of our times and worthy of rigorous studies because it has implications of far reaching importance. The present paper focuses on the economic implications of the process of globalisation on Indian tribes. With the entry of market forces in tribal regions and cash based economic transactions together threaten the tribal societies in a big way-perhaps with irreversible consequences. It is threatening the community life, disrupting the social institutions and jeopardising food security in these regions. Our growing acceptance of the inevitability of the consequences of globalisation is life threatening for the tribal communities because with such a mindset ameliorative measures would not be sought with seriousness.
