Abstract

The nutritional status is a major determinant of health and well being. In India, most of the research works on nutrition and diet surveys indicate that the populations are undernourished and subsisting on inadequate diet. The diets are deficient in terms of either calorie or vitamins and minerals. Three hundred and sixty six women were selected for the present study. Out of which 123 were Inter University players, 129 were college players and rest 114 were college students. All had given their written consent for their voluntary participation for this study. Diet survey was conducted by 24h recall method for three consecutive days. From this per day food consumption and calorie intake were calculated and compared with recommended dietary allowances (RDA) of ICMR. The study revealed that women players were lacking in their calorie consumptions compared to RDA of ICMR. It is recommended that a proper diet plan along with systematic and scientific training will help to enhance the performance of women players of Chhattisgarh.
