Abstract

Food and food habits in different regions of the world have been determined by the local availability of food. Satisfaction of hunger is usually the main criteria for a satisfactory food intake, but the knowledge that we possess today does not confirm to the selection of proper foods. The prehistoric man was concerned only with satisfying his hunger. From food gathering to food-producing stage, man acquired new physical traits, all for food. Even today the most complex phenomenon of human life is his food habits. Improved agricultural technology and exploitation of natural resources play an important role in the scenario of food and food habits of the people. The awareness of the importance of food to the well-being of the people has been proved the remarkable achievement of the present century.
