Almost Extinct Gotul in Muria Society: Illustration of a Cultural Tradition with Reference to Duggal Pargana

Abstract

The Present paper illustrates the tale of dying rich cultural heritage of Muria Gotul. According to Muria legend, the supreme deity created the first Gotul. This rich traditional culture is based on unity and brotherhood, which is the main feature of Muria community in Bastar region. In the Gotul tradition the unmarried boys and grisl are trained for their survival strategy. In the Gotul, friendliness, sympathy and unity are prime importance instead of the concept of individualistc.
