Traditionally, customary laws have played a pivotal role in dispute resolution in the Pacific Island countries. In particular, the various elements of culture such as norms, values, beliefs, morals, law and customs are still given prominence in helping dispute resolution in the Pacific Island countries. More importantly, over the last few decades, there has been a renewed effort by governments in the Pacific Island countries to blend customary laws with parliamentary laws. Against this backdrop, this paper will analyse the use of customary law in dispute resolution in Fiji.
