Abstract

The context for this paper derived from the current overriding emphasis on micro-finance in the area of rural finance as a magic wand to ward off poverty and its alleviation. The paper discusses the meaning of micro-finance, evolution of micro-finance in the global perspective referring the present status of giant micro-finance institutions, the dire need for micro-finance in India, origin of Madhura Micro-Finance and its extraordinary performance. The paper brings out the contributions of Madhura Micro-Finance in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) of halving the world's poverty by 2015. The paper emphasizes the new product development and testing strategies of Madhura Micro-Finance in connection with clientele loyalty. The paper also highlights the ratings of Madhura Micro-Finance at global level which made it a bench mark for the existing and upcoming micro-finance institutions in India. If all the MFIs adopt the bench mark model of Madura Micro-Finance Company, definitely then there ia an ample scope of overcoming poverty by improving living standards of the subjects of the nation.
