Abstract

Entrepreneurship is considered as the backbone of any nation's economy. It is gaining tremendous societal importance worldwide. It is strongly believed that inculcating entrepreneurship education and developing entrepreneurial skills among students would pave way for entrepreneurial activities leading to the economic development.

The importance of stimulating interest in entrepreneurship and small business ventures among the youth is gaining momentum in Oman. It is well recognized now that entrepreneurs can be created and nurtured to become successful icons of the economy in future and towards this end, the Ministry and companies in Oman are taking several initiatives.

But little is known about the influence of entrepreneurship education in Oman. Further to it, not much is known about the aptitude of Omani students in taking entrepreneurship as their career. And there is a gap in the knowledge on the entrepreneurial intentions of Omani students. This paper makes an attempt to address these issues and their influence on entrepreneurial intentions of students. The findings reveal that many students possess entrepreneurial skills and characteristics. The attitude and level of interest towards entrepreneurship is also high and this clearly shows that they have the motivation to become entrepreneurs, are open to learn the business etiquettes and eager to work on new ideas and projects. Entrepreneurship education is a lifelong learning process, best to be given from high school and progressing through all levels of education. Students need to be involved in challenging educational activities and hands-on-training experiences.
