The present paper highlights the productivity and profitability of various bank groups in era of liberalization. Profitability is the highest in foreign banks and new private sector banks as compared to public and old private sector banks. Similarly, productivity is also the highest in foreign banks and new private sector banks. The paper finds positive and high correlation between profitability and various determinants of profitability. On the basis of various parameters, study explores emerging issues and suggests some strategies to enhance the productivity and profitability of public sector banks in particular to all groups in general.
