Understanding personality profiles and academic achievement of management students

Abstract

Understanding personality is important because personality affects perception, attitudes and behavior. The industry has lot of expectations from management graduates in terms of higher performance at individual and at group level. In present study, an attempt has been made to identify & understand the personality of management students at undergraduate and post graduate level and relate it with their academic scores in order to understand which personality type performs better academically. It shall help to make some judgments about their performance on the job. Today, all over the world, different psychological instruments are being used to determine various personality attributes of employees in all industries. Keirsey Temperament Sorter and MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator),a psychological instrument has been taken into consideration for this study. The present study compared the personality types of management students gender wise and class wise and attempted to find whether there were differences in the academic scores of management student having different personality types. Maximum percentage of MBA students were ESTJs whereas maximum percentage of BBA students were ENTJs. The ENTPs had highest academic scores in MBA whereas the ESFJs had highest academic scores in BBA. Female students were found to be better than the male students academically.
