This paper briefly discusses the ontogeny and ultrastructure of bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) chloroplasts and the effects of some biotic and abiotic stress factors on chloroplast ultrastructure. It is assessed that all stress factors cause chloroplast structure modifications such as dilation of the whole chloroplast, separation of grana, and the accumulation of starch granules. All these anomalies have a direct impact on the photosynthetic capacity of chloroplast.
