Nitrogen nutrition of peach – A review

Nitrogen is the most limiting element in peach production due to its bearing on previous year's growth. Nitrogen levels standardized under different agroclimatic conditions show variation from region to region and project variations in the nutrient status of the orchard soils. Besides growth and yield of quality fruits it is also involved in a number of physiological functions. In peach with various fertilizer trials 500 g N/tree is the best and most economical for improving the growth, yield and quality of fruits alongwith basal dose of 200g P₂O₅ and 480g K₂O. Work done on peach reveals that a positive relationship exists between the rate of N fertilizer and leaf N, Fe, Mn, Zn and the negative relationship between N rate and leaf P, K and Ca.
