Abstract

The research progress in the area of tissue culture of strawberry is optimistic. Cryopreservation and cold storage of plantlets or meristems are valuable tools which help in the preservation of genetic resources. Micropropagation techniques are now established and commercially exploited for propagation of strawberry in many countries including India. Protocols for protoplast isolation and regeneration have been developed for different cultivars and provide sound basis for continued research in the area. The tissue culture techniques which are used for other crop species viz., protoplast fusion, in vitro cell selection somatic embryogenesis have been adapted in to strawberry also.
