In rainfed agriculture one of the major constraints for crop productivity is poor soil fertility. Although these regions constitute a significant part in agricultural production, the economy in fertilizers use, sustaining soil health and yield of crops could be achieved only by conjuctive use of fertilizers, organics and biofertilizers. Moreover the integrated nutrient management in these regions is highly imperative in minimizing environmental pollution and health hazards caused by excess fertilizer application. The potential of integrated use of fertilizers, organics and biofertilizers in modifying the physical and biochemical properties has been discussed. Beneficial effect of organics blended with inorganic and biofertilizers in many field crops viz., cotton, jowar, bajra, blackgram, sunflower etc., has also been established in semi arid regions. There is a scope for enhancing the productivity of this region if proper integrated nutrient management systems (INM) for the various crops have been adopted.
