Abstract

Melanaphis sacchari (Zehntner), the sugarcane aphid distributed in Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas on sorghum not only affects the grain and fodder yield but also the fodder quality directly and indirectly. Studies carried out on population dynamics of aphid and its natural enemies, the losses caused by aphid, screening methods and the efficacy of different plant products. Insecticides and other methods are reviewed and discussed in this paper. Attempts were also made to focus on the biophysical and/or biochemical causes for its resistance.
