Abstract

Niacin has a positive role in minimizing both heat and nutritional stress in dairy cows because of its vasodilatory properties and its potent role to counteract ketosis. Due to its incorporation into coenzymes NAD and NADp, it has a great significance in terms of metabolism. However, there is difference of opinions among researchers regarding the effect of niacin on the milk yield, its composition, physiology and blood profile of lactating dairy cows during hot weather. Therefore present review discusses the effect of niacin supplementation on milk yield, milk composition, blood profile and physiological responses of lactating cows during heat stress.
