Abstract

This study examines the impact of the temperature humidity index (THI) on the thyroid function of crossbred cattle and the potential benefits of antioxidant supplementation. In order to shed light on the seasonal subtleties of thyroid function, the research covers the summer and winter seasons equally. Recognizing that changes in temperature and humidity are significant stresses on livestock, especially crossbred cattle.

The radioimmunoassay (RIA) technique was used to assess the blood levels of the harmone T3 and T4. In the estimate method, the tracer I-125 was utilized and there was a rivalry between free and isotope-tagged hormones for the few available antibody binding sites.

The values of T3 and T4 (μg/100 ml of blood) in suckling, young adult and mature buffalo cattle were 33.1±2.52, 8.40±0.54, 3.17±1.18 and 4.70±0.45 and 33.6±2.20 and 2.10±6.42, respectively. Since heat stress activates the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis, measuring thyroid hormones be a useful signal for stress assessment in animals. This is because the thyroid gland is extremely temperature sensitive. This information is vital for improving the health and production of crossbred cattle that face various environmental stresses via the creation of specific treatments.
