Abstract

Ten pearl millet populations and their 45 crosses (half diallel) were evaluated for determining their utility as parents in the development of hybrids and/or high yielding varieties. Populations ICMV 95501, RVPT 93(102) and ICMV 94774, and crosse's HMP 9102 x RVPT 93(115), HP 8601 x ICMV 95778, RVPT 93 (102) x ICMV 95778, HMP 9002 x HP 8601 and HP8601 x ICMV 94774 were Judged the best for panicle surface area on the basis of per se performance and combining ablUty analysis. The use of these populations and crosses for development of high yielding varieties and for development of new potential inbreeds for hybrids has been suggested.
