Twenty soybean varieties (determinate/semideterminate/indeterminate) were evaluated for stability under four plant densities. viz., 60 x 15cm. 60 x 5cm. 30 x 15 cm and 30 x 5 cm. Their mean squares due to variety x environment (linear) were significant, indicating that there were genetic differences among the varieties for regression values. Considering all the three parameters of stability (X. band S2di), the soybean varieties PK416. PK963. PK471, PK262 and PK327 were stable and ideal varieties as these showed high mean yielci with unit regression and least deviation. However, PK472. PK564, PK515 had high mean, b value greater than 1 and non-significant deviation from regression, indicating good response to better environment (spacing. i.e. 30 x 15 cm). Determinate and semi determinate genotype responded similarly at normal as well as close planting whereas, indeterminate cultivars performed better at normal as well as higher spacing.
