Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during rabi 1999 to evaluate different herbicides in hybrid rice (Oryza sativa L) nursery. Among the herbicides tried, pretilachlor + safener 0.45 kg ai/ha applied on 7 days after sowing (DAS) was found to be the most effective in controlling weeds. Higher weed toxicity rating (6.67), weed control efficiency (69.43%) and rice seedling vigour index (50.92) were recorded with the pretilachlor + safener 0.45 kg/ha. Lower number of weeds (10.0/m2) was also observed with the same treatment. This was followed by the treatment where butanil 1.68 kg ai/ha was applied at 10 DAS.
