Abstract

The field experiments were conducted during summer and kharif, 1996 to determine the effect of different pre-emergence (PEH) and post emergence herbicides (POH) and herbicides along with hand weeding (HW) in controlling weeds in irrigated sunflower. Among the different weed control methods, application of fluchloralin @ 1.5 kg a.i ha−1 with one HW at 30 days after sowing (DAS) proved better with weed control efficiency, 96.58% and 97.04% and it reduced the weed density m2 and weed biomass in summer and kharifseason respectively. It also favoured the improvement in growth attributes viz., plant height, leaf area index, dry matter production and seed yield (1388.44 and 1401.20 kg ha−1) of sunflower in summer and kharif, 1996, respectively.
