In an experiment conducted during kharif and rabi seasons of 1992–93 and 1993–94 to evaluate the energy inputs, energy output, net energy gain and output-input ratio of different maize-based cropping systems, it is observed that maize-potato-wheat of sequence and other intensive rotations needed more energy inputs, while maize-lentil sequence incurred minimum energy inputs. Maize-toria-maize sequence in 1992–93 and maize + soybean maize in 1993–94 computed maximum energy output. Similarly, maize+soybean-maize sequence was involved in more net energy gain process. Maize - lentil sequence, however, resulted in higher output - input ratio during both the years.
