Abstract

Basal stem rot (BSR) incited by Ganoderma Jucidem (leys) Karsten is wide spread in coconut plantations in Kamataka state often causing a loss of 5.13% annually. An experiment was conducted during 1997–2000 in five farmers' coconut gardens in Arsikere Taluk of Hassan District, Kamataka, for control of the disease, using systemic fungicides viz., Tridemorph (Calaxin) and Hexaconazole (Contaf). The fungicides were given as root feeding, soil drenching and root feeding plus soil drenching at quarterly interval. All the treatments were quite effective in checking the disease. The lowest-disease index was achieved with Tridemorph root feeding (2%)+soil drenching (0.3%) followed by Hexaconazole root feeding (1%) +soil drenching (0.2%) and soil drenching with Tridemorph (0.3%) and Hexaconazole (0.2%), root feeding alone was less effective.
