Abstract

Carbon isotope discrimination (a trait correlated with water use efficiency) studies were made in 21 F1 hybrids of groundnut. Lower values of Carbon isotope discrimination (Δ) were recorded in TMV2-NLM, ICG 2716, Tirupati 1 and ICGV 86031. As many as eleven hybrids with one of these as parents had lower Δ), values, the best being ICG 2716 x TMV2-NLM and Trirupati 1 x TMV2-NLM. ICG 2716 x TAG 24 exhibited significant negative heterosis over mid parent while TAG 24 x TMV2-NLM had significant positive heterosis over better parent.
