A study on hybrid vigour was carried out in sesame through diallel analysis for yield and its components in sesame. Eight genotypes were crossed in a diallel fashion including reciprocals to obtain 56 hybrids. Out of 56 hybrids studied, 16 showed significant and positive heterosis over their MP value, four showed significant and positive heterosis over corresponding better parent value, two showed significant and positive heterosis over SP value for single plant yield. The hybrid combination TNAU 142 x Col and TMV 6 x Col exhibited signficant and positive heterosis for single plant yield and capsules in branches. TNAU 142 x Col also recorded significant and positive values for all the three heterosis for total dry matter production, and thus, need exploitation for developing high yielding new varieties.
