Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during kharif season of 1996 to study the response of rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars to levels of nitrogen, Among three varieties Sarju-52 was found superior than HUR-36 and Haryana Basmati-1 in seed yield and yield attributing characters viz., test weight and filled grains panicle−1. Although variation in nitrogen levels from 40 to 160 kg ha−1 significantly influence panicle length, filled grains panicle-1 and straw yield. However, nitrogen levels beyond 120 kg ha−1 did not show significant effect on seed yield and effective tillers per running meter.
