Abstract

A study on 21 genotypes of Brassica and related species was carried out to estimate variability, heritability and genetic advance under selection for 12 quality parameters including fatty acids. Widest range of variation was observed for glucosinolates followed by oil and protein contents. Glucosinolates also exhibited highest GCV followed by oil content and test weight. Among the fatty acids, linolenic acid was shown highest GCV followed by stearic and oleic acid. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance was observed for glucosinolates and erucic acid suggesting the preponderance of additive gene action in determination of these traits. Selection pressure applied on these traits would be profitable.
