Abstract

Correlation and path coefficient analysis for twelve different characters were worked out. Correlation at phenotypic and genotypic levels indicated that grain yield per plant showed significant positive association with number of effective tillers per plant, number of grains per ear, grain weight per ear, biological yield per plant and harvest index. Path coefficient analysis revealed taht biological yield per plant and harvest index had positive and high direct effect on grain yield per plant. Hence, the study revealed the importance of number of effective tillers per plant, number of grains per ear, grain weight per ear, biological yield per plant and harvest index as selection criteria for improvement of grain yield in wheat.
