Abstract

A field experiment was conducted on vertisols during kharif-1999 to assess the performance of different heribicides for weed control in onion. Five herbicides were tried along with weed free and unweeded controls. The highest number of monocot, dicot and total weeds were recorded in unweeded control both 30 days after sowing and at harvest. Weed free check recorded significantly higher onion bulb yield (105 q/ha) and was comparable to yields obtained with Metolachlor @ 1.0 kg a.i./ha (93.3 q/hal and Kloben @ 0.006 kg a.i./ha (84.1 q/ha) Among the herbicides Metolachlor recorded higher weed control efficiency (67.2%) and lower weed index 111.1%).
