A field experiment was conducted in rabi season of the year 2000–2001 with sixteen treatment combinations of four levels of compaction by 0, 2, 4 and 6 passes of a iron roller of 500 kg denoting as C₀, C₂, C₄ and C₆ and four levels of irrigation i.e. I₄, I₅, I₆ and I₈ denoting number of irrigations. fenugreek (Methi) variety Rmt 1 was taken as test crop. The soil of the experimental field was loamy sand in texture. Compaction decreased the saturated hydraulic. conductivity and total porosity in the sub-surface of 15–30 cm lay rs besides, increase in the bulk density and moisture content of the soil. Soil compaction increased with increase in number of passes of iron roller 2 to 6. This effect was observed upto the harvest of crop but with declining magnitude.
