A field experiment was conducted in rabi season of the year 2000–2001 with sixteen treatment combinations of four levels of compaction by 0, 2, 4 and 6 passes of a iron roller of 500 kg denoting as C0, C2, C4 and C6 and four levels of irrigation i.e. I4, I5, I6 and I8 denoting number of irrigations. fenugreek (Methi) variety Rmt 1 was taken as test crop. The soil of the experimental field was loamy sand in texture. Compaction decreased the saturated hydraulic. conductivity and total porosity in the sub-surface of 15–30 cm lay rs besides, increase in the bulk density and moisture content of the soil. Soil compaction increased with increase in number of passes of iron roller 2 to 6. This effect was observed upto the harvest of crop but with declining magnitude.
