Abstract

As rangda onion generally produces inferior quality bulb, showed poor keeping quality in storage. Eight promising dark red onion genotypes along with 3 check cultivars were screened for 3 months storage. For storage study only marketable bulbs after giving post-harvest treatment were used. The genotypes, Sangamner-3 and Sangamner-1 recorded significantly least total losses (i.e. 2.17 and 3.03% respectively) with no sprouting and rotting losses. After third month of storage, the 15.98%, mean total losses were recorded including 13.18% physiological loss in weight, 1.55% rotting and 1.24% sprouting losses. Thus, sprouting losses were only recorded during third month of storage. The significantly least total losses were recorded in three genotypes viz., N-2-4-1 (11.11%), Sangamner-3 (11.20%) and M-9 (11.89%) without any sprouting and rotting losses. While significantly highest total losses were recorded in check cv. B-780 (23.40%) followed by Phule Suvarna (20.28%), Sangamner-1 (17.75%) and RHR 154 (17.48%).
