Abstract

Two varieties, JS-80-21 and Bragg were treated with 0.2% and 0.4% EMS and were studied in M1 and M2 generation with an objective to induce genetic variability and to isolate useful mutants. The increased variability was observed for most of the quantitative characters. Visible mutants viz., chlorophyll, late flowering, taU, dwarf, densely foliated, branched, single poded etc. were isolated with various frequencies, High yielding mutant was isolated from JS-BO-21 treated with 0.4% EMS. The mutant needs to be observed forits breeding behaviour in M3. The mutation frequency and mutagenic efficiency was higher in Bragg than JS-BO-21.
