Abstract

Field trials were undertaken for three consecutive years from 1991–1993 in rabi seasons to formulate Integrated Pest Management for sorghum shoot fly, Atherigona soccata Rondani. Results revealed that the treatment with Carbofuran 3G @ 2 g/meter row + High seed rate of 10 kg/ha and thinning at 20 days after germination + Release of egg perasitoid, Trichogramma chilonis Ishi @ 5 lakh adults on 7, 14 and 21 days after germination recorded the lowest shoot fly incidence of 11.5 per cent and highest grain yield of 30.0 q/ha and it was at par with Carbofuran 3G @ 2 g/meter row + Release of egg parasitoids, Carbofuran 3G @ 2 g/meter row and Carbofuran 3G @ 2 g/meter row + High seed rate of 10 kg/ha and thinning at 20 days after germination with 13.4, 14.3 and 144 per cent deadhearts respectively with grain yield of 28.7, 28.4 and 28.3 q/ha, respectively. The above treatments recorded avoidable loss to the tune of 41.0, 38.3, 37.7 and 37.5 per cent, respectively.
