Abstract

The estimates of genetic analysiS revealed that additive (D) and dominance (H1) gene actions with preponderance of dominance component were responsible for expression of oil content. The distribution of genes with positive and negative effects was asymmetrical and only one gene or gene group operated the expression of trait. The moderate heritability (ns) estimates were observed moderate for the trait. The inbred lines X1W 1016-2-3-2, X1W 8055-2 and Pop 30-5040-2 were identified as good general combiners. The hybrid (X1W 8052-2 x Pop 30-5040-2) was found superior and stable for the oil content. To utilize additive and dominance variances simultaneously, biparental mating or reciprocal recurrent selection methodology may be adopted in maize oil Improvement programme.
