Available sulphur status in soils of Yamuna river basin of Haryana State

Abstract

Five hundred and twenty seven surface samples were collected from Sonipat, Rohtak, and Panipat districts primarily representing Yamuna river basin of Haryana State. These soils were alkaline, low to medium in soluble salts and organic carbon content. About 30 per cent, soil samples were deficient in available S in Sonipat, 21 in Panipat and 11 in Rohtak district. Overall 23 per cent soils were found to be deficient in soils of Yamuna river basin of Haryana State. Soluble salts and organic carbon content significantly influenced availability of Sinthese soils. No relationship of available S with sod pH was observed in simple correlation studies. Multiple tegression analysis showed that 43 per cent variations in available S from Sonipat and 25 in Rohtak district were accountable to the combined effect of soil pH, EC and organic carbon content.
