The mean leaf length, leaf width, head diameter and seed yield per plant progressively decreased in all the three populations with advancing generations. The lower mean values for different traits of first cycle selected populations were due to raising of these populations in off-season environment. The variances for head diameter and seed yield per plant showed a progressive decrease but plant height and leaf length recorded an increase. The skewnesses for plant height, leaf length, leaf width and head diameter showed increase in advancing generations whereas for seed yield per p1ant changes in skewness were not significant. Kurtoses showed no trend except in case of head diameter which showed a progressive reduction over advancing generations. These observed changes in means, variances, skewnesses and kurtoses can be attributed to the effect of selection.
