Abstract

Heterosis over superior parent and inbreeding depression for 8 characters from 10 F1s and their F2s involving 5 parents of linseed were estimated. Highly significant and positive heterosis for yield was observed in the crosses LCK 9216 x Kiran, EC 1045 x Kiran and EC 1045 x NL 93. For oil content crosses GS-280 x Kiran, LCK 9216 x Kiran and EC 1045 x Kiran showed significant estimate of heterosis. These crosses also exhibited considerable inbreeding depression in F2 generation. Significant and desirable heterosis along with significant inbreeding depression was also reported for the characters viz., days to flower, number of tillers per plant, number of branches per plant, days to maturity and 1000-seed weight.
